This week’s challenge is Synonyms Only. That means you choose two synonyms for the two words below. Use must use the synonyms in your poem, NOT the two words.
Easter is a significant Christian holy day, although many of the traditions and symbols surrounding the day have roots in agnostic celebrations.
Can you imagine Easter without the Easter egg and Easter Bunny and all the other what not? I can not.
Some historians maintain that the word “Easter” comes from Eostre, or Eostrae, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility. Others explain Easter is a derivative of a Latin phrase alba or dawn.
The History webpage linked above explains in detail all the popular non-religious Easter traditions, including Easter eggs, and related games such as egg rolling and egg decorating. The egg represents fertility and decorating them a way to celebrate of life.
The Easter Bunny? No one can say for sure. . . although there is the metaphor; to multiply like rabbits.
In Florida, things will be quiet. But I have wonderful memories of Easter Sunday mass, baskets, new dresses and bonnets, egg hunts and searching for the golden egg.
It is a celebration of life, new beginnings and hope in the world.

It was the day after Christmas the presents unwrapped. The plants nestled and covered. . . taking a nap.
We stayed in pajamas relieved only three gifts go back,
Then what to my wondering ears did I hear, “didsomeonejustshout?”
Confused, I responded, “what are you talking about?”
Bob repeated, “didsomeonejustshout?”
I hollered back.
To which he exclaimed, “WEDNESDAY…THE…GARBAGE…GOES OUT”
Merry Christmas to all!

This morning’s headline, “10,000-home Avalon Park project moving ahead” in our local newspaper turned my stomach.
The article, written by Clayton Park, informed us that, Beat Kahil, the developer, is predicting confidently, he’ll break ground for this massive project in Daytona Beach some time in 2023.
Predicting confidently? I can only imagine what that implies.
And ten thousand more homes is not what our area needs. We are over developed now.
Who is Beat Kahil? The name sounds fictitious to me.
A Googled search revealed the picture above and the information below.
Today’s article was nothing but favorable. No mention of the environmental impact, stripping the trees, changed zoning, or the strain on our hospitals and schools. The tone of the article hailed this developer’s achievement and success. Evidently he turned Orlando into a parking lot, not too long ago.
The article does discuss: building permits issued in 2021 by the City of Daytona, traffic concerns detailed by Maryam Ghyabi, the Ormond Beach engineering and transportation planning consultant chairing the LPGA Coalition and the fact that water and sewer services for Avalon Park Daytona Beach will be provided by the City of Ormond Beach.
All that happen while we were sleeping.
Nevertheless, Beat Kahil is confidently predicting his vision to create an entire town, will begin in 2023.
I’m confidently predicting it will be our worst nightmare.

“Today is Saturday, November 27, the 331st day of 2021. There are 34 days left in the year.” Like other newspapers, our local paper reports this information, and includes significant events from previous years, i.e.; Macy’s first Thanksgiving Day parade took place in 1924 and the release of the Beatles album “Magical Mystery Tour” in 1967.
Only 34 days left in the year! Good grief! Thirty-four days to achieve the goals I committed to 331 days ago.
Oh well, . . . it is what it is.
This expression, one of resignation, is included increasingly in conversations.
Why?
We never catch a break from mayhem.
So, I’ve been watching Lifetime Christmas Romance movies late at night and was thrilled not to see any uniformed police officers during the televised Thanksgiving Parade.
I’m thinking of sending a personal thank you note to Tom Selleck, you know the Police Commissioner of NYPD.
I know. . . I know, he’s not really the police commissioner in New York City. But you may agree, he should be.

I remember Halloween Parties at our home on Linwood Avenue in Newton, New Jersey. The kids lined the walkway to view the adult only arrival. The partying probably started in 1984, and continued for about ten years.
The pictures are in no order and some of the best may be missing. Where are you Clark Kent?
My favorite of Bob, my husband as Mr. T cannot be found.
We had party crashers, one who in costume scared several women and was asked to leave unless he revealed his true identity.
Some day I’ll make a photobook.
. . . . just saying,
Happy Halloween

I was lured by the hacker. He was a member of a Facebook writers’ group and posted a need for a beta reader.
I’ve been hiding under a rock, bah humbug over social media, and busy working on a novel, which I finished. The next step is to have Morningside Drive read by people who don’t know me for objective opinions. This is called beta reading.
That’s how I came across Adr lan. I offered to beta read his short story and he sent me the document in FB messenger.
But something was wrong from the start.
It was a legitimate story with markups from other critiques. However, FB messenger had a warning, if you respond Adr Ian would be able to phone you.
I didn’t want to talk with him. Instead, I commented on the writers’ group page saying I would return the critique document only in an email.
I never heard back.
Then, a friend phoned. “Did you send me a friends request and a poorly written covid message?”
“It’s not me!” I said, and spent the next three hours remedying the problem.
I pulled my hair out watching a Facebook video on how to report the incident. Nothing was easy.
The next day I visited the hacker’s page and found numerous requests for beta readers on a variety of different stories. It felt like aliens were reading my mind. The reality is hackers can’t read our minds but they must have access to computer searches.
What do you think?
Although I had been lured, I had a sense of complicity. Like I’d left the front door open and invited them to searched my underwear draw. Nothing was taken, just disrupted and I spent hours righting their wrong.
Now I’m experiencing what my friend Pat called . . . Computer rage.
